The Republic of Tajikistan has made great strides in its effort to improve the quality and efficiency of its education system. The Government’s total education expenditure has increased steadily since 1999, reaching a significant 5.23% of its GDP in 2015 (UIS data). This is well above the average education expenditure level in low-income countries (3.8 % of GDP). Significantly, it is also above the average education expenditure of post-Soviet states in the Central Asian and southern Caucasus regions – which stands at 4.46% of GDP (Education Sector Analysis of Tajikistan 2019).
